DrupalcampLA Basics

Basics

Date: September 8-9 (tentative)
Venue: TBD (needs to be a medium sized space with a common area plus 2-3 rooms with tables, chairs, and projectors, seating about 20-30 people each. needs to be available from 9am Saturday to 3pm Sunday).

Speakers:

  • Acheive Internet is sending folks
  • Silona Bonewald might be able to come present
  • Us Local folk can lead sessions
  • (do we need anyone else? Planning to put out an open call.)

Tracks

  • Developers: Installaton, hosting, custom modules, what's next for Drupal 6
  • Designers: Theming, theming, theming, best practices and examples, some overlap with Dev. track
  • Site Admins (Non-Technical): The more accessible side of Drupal. Site setup and configuration, user roles, adding modules, content creation.

Prep

  • Graphics and Design
    • Logo - Squidster?
    • Site Design - Crystal
  • Theming of this site - Crystal (anyone want to help?)
  • Publicity Blitz (gathering of the drupal people we don't already know)
  • Submit open call for speakers to all appropriate sites/communities

Planning

  • Find a venue
    • Negotiate chairs, insurance, projectors, etc if needed
  • Gather sponsorships (already have some promised)
    • Send out letters to companies who would benefit from a stronger drupal community in LA
    • Figure out a way to take in funds, likely a separate paypal acct. document funds
  • Set a budget
  • Food
  • Shirts?
  • Decide on speakers
  • Arrange for speakers (and transport if necessary)
  • Set and publish schedule

Publicity

  • Blog like crazy, get press from bloggers we know
  • Take in registrations and keep list updated as the date draws closer

Prizes/Giveaway

  • Rhino can provide box sets/cd's/dvd's as prizes to lure participants.
